How to Make Pumpkin Bread

Learn how to make pumpkin bread using your fresh or canned pumpkin. We've been eating fresh pumpkin bread for years. It's a great way to use the fresh pumpkin from your garden. It also freezes well, if you want to save a few loaves for later.

Eating Pumpkin Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp soda
  • 8 eggs
  • 4 cubes butter
    (You can substitute 2 cups of oil or 2 cups of applesauce for the butter)
  • 1 cup honey
  • 4 cups pumpkin
  • 6 cups wheat flour
  • Optional- add chopped nuts
Cream the butter, sugar, and eggs together.

Mix in the pumpkin and dry ingredients.

Bake in a greased loaf pans for 1 hour at 350°. Yields 4 loaves.

Checking pumpkin bread out of the oven

To check and see if the pumpkin bread is done, stick a knife in the middle of the loaf and pull it back out. If there's dough on the knife, you need to cook it a little longer. If the knife is clean, the bread is done.
