This is similar to the crisis syndrome, except instead if using a crisis as a means to push an unconstitutional act, ( the patriot act) a crisis is instead brought up in order to deflect attention away from something more serious going on, like Washington quietly going about the business of making vitamins only available by rx, or passing laws restricting the god given rights of one unpopular group after another. Except we don't hear or care about that because we only see images of gay pride parades, (as sick as they are, we have MUCH greater threats) Benghazi hearings or some celebrity bimbo's arraignment for DUI.
